A Decade Between Goals

A decade ago, in 2015, I gave myself a similar New Year’s resolution to post something arty every day. It was the first NYR I ever completed. I’m going for a second this year. I had two successful Kickstarter’s that year and saw a lot of progress in my skills. I was really focused on the social media aspect though. After four years of hardly painting (2020-2024), I figured it was time to set a new challenge. The focus this time is to paint every day. I’m posting on Bluesky and Pixelfed for accountability but I’m trying not to get too hung up on likes, follows, etc. The other reason I brought up 2015 is that it was the kickoff of my interest in drawing faces. I took a class with Dina Wakley about drawing faces and she said, “If you want to improve drawing faces - draw 100 of them.” Since I had to draw every day anyway I took that challenge. I like painting and drawing faces so there might be a lot this year. My Pinterest is full of faceboards created back then for reference. The image below is watercolor with black Stabilo pencil. I haven’t used it in a while so I forgot just how dark it can be.
